The idea of making a can drawing press, in the rotary form, came from our many years of building high-speed battery equipment.
These cans were being produced at a rate of 150 to 180 per minute, and then they came to our machine where we assembled the rest of the battery at speeds of up to 1,000 parts per minute.
The ongoing necessity for higher production speeds makes it apparent that technology is limited by mechanical reciprocation and the design constraints of the transfer beam. By applying a rotary concept, we have been able to increase the actual draw times available, resulting in nearly three times the actual draw (at 1,000 parts per minute) than a press running at 150 parts per minute. This draw rate difference becomes especially clear when the can comes off of the machine as cool as when it entered.
